I finish my concert binge at Le Poisson Rouge in Greenwich Village. At the heart of the NYU scene, LPR sits on the heavily trafficked area of Bleeker Street. It’s the closest thing New York has to a “frat row”. The nice thing about this area is that it stays up late (contrary to popular belief, a lot of New York has normal bedtimes). We headed into the murky, dim-lit venue sometime after midnight, just in time to see the headliner Little Dragon perform.
Little Dragon is a Swedish electro/rock band, fronted by a Japanese/Swedish girl, similar to Bjork in looks and singing style. I’m going to step out on a limb here and put my full faith in these guys. Maybe it was just because of the sexy lighting, or having a beautiful lady at my side, but Little Dragon set the tone for a perfect concert setting. Just enough electronics to get you moving, but enough sultry singing to have you lost in lusty wonder, staring gaga at the stage.
Little Dragon’s new album, “Machine Dreams”, is fiery. Get it.
Turn the lights low for this one. Just float in the darkness. Spiral down into the bright lights. Let it haunt.
An enticing blend of twee indie pop hooks and crisp electronic beats
Oh, and if you like Jose Gonzalez (yes he is Swedish), the drummer for Little Dragon, Erik Bodin, is also Gonzalez’s drummer.
