Pitchfork’s Top 20 Albums of the Decade
I am a sucker for lists. Pitchfork recently released a list of what they felt were the top 2o0 albums of the decade. Here is their top 20.
01. Radiohead – Kid A
02. Arcade Fire – Funeral
03. Daft Punk – Discovery
04. Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
05. Jay-Z – The Blueprint
06. Modest Mouse – The Moon & Antarctica
07. The Strokes – Is This It
08. Sigur Rós – Ágætis Byrjun
09. Panda Bear – Person Pitch
10. The Avalanches – Since I Left You
11. Ghostface Killah – Supreme Clientele

16. Sufjan Stevens – Illinois
17. LCD Soundsystem – Sound of Silver
18. Kanye West – Late Registration
19. Spoon – Kill the Moonlight
20. Interpol – Turn on the Bright Lights
In some ways, I do hate lists like this, especially one as broad as an entire decade of music. But I am happy to say I own a good portion of these albums. Though, I certainly disagree with a few of these. I think I am going to put together my own version of the the top 20.
- Arcade Fire – Funeral
- Radiohead- Kid A
- Eminem – Marshall Mathers LP
- Red Hot Chili Peppers – Stadium Arcadium
- The Shins – Chutes Too Narrow
- Coldplay – Viva La Vida
- Muse – Absolution
- Incubus – A Crow Left of the Murder
- Andrew Bird – Andrew Bird and the Mysterious Production of Eggs
- Iron and Wine – Our Endless Numbered Days
- John Mayer – Room For Squares
- Modest Mouse – Good New For People Who Love Bad News
- Jay z – The Black Album
- Fleet Foxes – Fleet Foxes
- Kanye West – Late Registration
- Nickel Creek – Why Should the Fire Die
- Jimmy Eat World – Bleed American
- Rufus Wainwright – Poses
- Nine Inch Nails – With Teeth
- Raconteurs – Consolers of the Lonely
Gotta love that Ghostface is in there, although reviewers jock his nuts pretty hard.
I put Kid A on whenever I absolutely need to write something quality within 50 minutes. Works every time.
Albums worth discussing (just kidding, this decade sucked!):
Andrew W.K. – I Get Wet
Dead Prez – Let’s Get Free
Deltron 3030 S/T
DJ Shadow – The Private Press
N.Y. Rel-X – Sold out of Love
Nelly – Country Grammar
People Under the Stairs – O.S.T.
Placebo – Black Market Music
Project Pat – Layin’ The Smackdown
Raphael Saadiq – The Way I See It
Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek – Train of Thought
Honorable Mention: Anything from Swishahouse, Bone Thugs Greatest Hits
I’ll be honest, I think Country Grammar should have been on my list. I deeply regret my forgetfulness.
Too Bad Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001 was actually released in 1999. What a sham.
